    • It is a friendly species, Sue. Argiope aurantia, or the common Black and Yellow Garden spider, is found througout most of the US and probably elsewhere, too. The web is most noticeable for its zig-zaggy pattern of silk, called the stabilimentum, in the bottom part of the web. These garden spiders are considered harmless to humans, but they sure do eat a lot of bugs! I saw it catch a grasshopper the other day. 🙂
